About G R A C E

GRACE community church came out of a small group of believers in Lakin, KS who wanted a church based on sound biblical teaching, deep growth in the faith of the congregation, and missions that truly served the community as well as the kingdom of God.

In the fall of 2019, this small group became a mission of the Aspen Grove Church Planting Network, which is the church planting network of Presbytery of the West in the EPC denomination.

Our Mission Statement

By grace, we are rooted in the Gospel, committed to growing together, and sent to love Lakin and the nations.

Our Core Distinctives

1. GOSPEL ROOTED
We believe through sound teaching, study, & prayer we will uphold the Bible as the infallible Word of God that tells the redemptive story of Jesus from beginning to end.

2. GROWING TOGETHER
We believe the local church is God’s imperfect family encouraging, serving and enjoying one another as the Holy Spirit transforms us to be more like Jesus.

3. LOVING LAKIN and the NATIONS
We believe in equipping God’s family to proclaim the Gospel by intentionally serving and investing in others in Lakin and beyond through our words and deeds.

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible tells a single story from beginning to end about the love of our Father in heaven, the son Jesus Christ coming to save us all, and the Holy Spirit which was given to us.  You see, we are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than many of us believe. Yet, at the very same time, we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we could ever imagine.

We believe that today, too often, the irreligious don’t repent at all, the religious only repent of their sins, but when the Gospel is fully understood, true Christians will also repent of their own righteousness.  We are not saved by our works, but by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

The story told in the Bible is truly life-altering.  It is a story that leads us to live differently than both progressive liberals and conservative moralists.

Conservative Moralism has truth without grace, for they say or imply that we must obey the truth in order to be saved.

Progressive Liberalism has a grace without truth, for they say or imply that we are all accepted by God regardless of what we decide is true for us.

But those with truth without grace do not really have the truth, and those with grace without truth do not really have grace.  In Jesus we behold the glory of the one “full of grace and truth”.

Progressive Liberalism tells us to express ourselves and find out what is right for us.

Conservative Moralism tells us to control our passions out of fear of punishment.

The Gospel tells us the free grace of God, which we cannot lose, “teaches” us to “say no” to our passions if we listen to it. (Titus 2:13)

Conservative Moralism says, “You are breaking the rules – repent!”

Progressive Liberalism says, “You just need to love and accept yourself.”

The Gospel leads us to say, “Something in my life has become more important than God, a pseudo-savior, a form of works-righteousness.  I must repent.”

This understanding of the Gospel motivates us to act not through fear of punishment, nor desires of the flesh, but through love and submission to our Father in heaven.
